Pause and Read

Pause the screen. Read something.

Turn off the moving pictures.
Give your mind a page of quiet.

Screens are designed to keep you clicking. Reading gives you your attention back. Any book counts. Any format counts. One page counts.

Why this exists

Literacy isn’t just about school. It’s about sustained attention, empathy, and thoughtful social engagement. Reading trains us to follow an idea, inhabit another perspective, and slow down before we react.

This project doesn’t tell you what to read. It helps you remember that reading is still possible — and still powerful.

How to begin

Pick what’s easy

Something short. Something familiar. Something you actually want. Rereading counts. Audiobooks and comics count.

Set a tiny timer

Five minutes is enough. One page is enough. The goal is habit, not achievement.

Read with someone

A child on a couch. A friend over coffee. A book club at the library. Reading builds connection.

Share it in your community

Put a QR code on a flyer at a library, coffee shop, church lobby, classroom, or community board. One scan → one calm page → one new habit.

Read the essays

Short, slow, readable reflections — designed to lower your blood pressure, not raise it.

Pause. And Read.

Why this project exists, why general literacy matters, and how reading builds empathy and social consciousness.
